Arzachena
Arzachena is a municipality in the province of Olbia-Tempio located approximately 83 meters above sea level. It is the administrative capital of the entire Costa Smeralda and is 25 km from Olbia and 45 km from Tempio Pausania and is a very important city in terms of tourism and hospitality.
The territory of Arzachena, with an area of about 228 kmē, includes 88 km of well-coast, rich of bays, inlets and beaches of pristine granite which includes the famous complex of the Costa Smeralda.
The mix of low and sandy coast with ravines, cliffs of granite of various colors that make this corner of Sardinia, a true natural paradise of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean and around the world.
But Arzachena is not just sea, it is also culture, history and gastronomy.
Nearby, there are numerous monuments of the nuragic period that demonstrates how it was vital this culture in this area. On highway 125 in the direction of Olbia, on the outskirts of the town, you can see the dolmen Albucciu. The nuraghe, built against a massive granite in the shape of a truncated cone and has a terrace on the top, is probably a sort of watchtower . Not far from the dolmen, was recently unearthed a tomb of the Giants and devoid of large monolithic stele inside which were found coins and engravings Punic, evidence that the tomb was also used in a later period than nuragica. Not far from Nuraghe Albucciu another important archaeological site is the temple of Malchittu. Dating from the sixteenth and fourteenth centuries BC the Necropolis of Li Muri, with an architecture simple but unique, is an important testimony of Culture of the Circles of Arzachena. Judging by the many valuable objects found in the dead buried in Li Muri had to be important people or belonging to a class leading, probably shepherds-knights, warriors of value or sailors.
Worth mentioning, the Tomb of Giants Coddu Vecchju, located in the homonymous area near Arzachena, is the largest example of its genre and reaches with its granite stele sipped a height of 4.04 meters.
The cuisine features many dishes of Sardinian culture and including the famous Soup Gallura obtained dipping slices of bread in the broth, alternating layers of bread with cheese and herbs and cook in the oven, lamb, goat and pig roast ; traditional sweets such as seadas and pane di saba [saba bread] (prepared by mixing the dough of eggs and flour cooked grape must) and finally do not forget to taste the famous Vermentino di Gallura, fine white wine which Arzachena is one of the major producers.
